I Well, the project is not going as planned. We had everything planned and so far throughout three games we have had a total of maybe three or four people. We have gone to the place to advertise and we still can't seem to get people to show up. It is a little discouraging to know that something we have worked hard on is not going to be a big success. Contact with Woodland Terrace is slow through Lindsey but she is the only way to reach them that we have. We have two more games left so maybe we will have some sort of progress we can show for. There isn't much more we can do to gain interest in the seniors. If someone else was to do this project, I would try to look for more ways to get the seniors interested.

With Grace in injury reserve, it was down to me and Megan. We waited as the bus pulled to the front entrance. The doors opened and out came one older lady. We were confused as to why there was only one person that came. We were informed that they had a big lunch and most of them got tired. We took her to the table full of bears to pick one out to throw. She collected stuffed animals so she got another one to keep for herself for free. When we finally sat down, I got the pom poms out and ready use. I tried to get the signs that we made but the gates to the upstairs rooms were down so I was unable to obtain them. Even without them, the crew still had a fantastic time together and the lady loved being able to watch the boys play and cheer them on.
The Gang has a new project idea in mind. We felt the need to help the senior citizens of New Palestine get more integrated into society. We will do this by creating a student section at various sports but the catch is that these students will be senior residents!! We would have the Woodland Terrace staff bus over some of the residents to watch some of the boys' and girls' basketball games. In addition we would also bring student athletes over to Woodland Terrace in order to interact with the residents. The idea is to connect the students and residents in order to let the residents know who they are cheering for. These interacts can be anything from playing games to creating crafts together. We had to get started by making a meeting with the people of Woodland Terrace in New Pal. It was very difficult to communicate with them because they didn't always like to respond back, but finally we got a meeting set. At this meeting we had made and printed out a powerpoint in order for the staff to get a visual idea of what is going on. We talked for about an hour and finally selected about 3 boys' and 2 girls' basketball games to start out with. We hope that the first one is a success so we can see about adding more games to the list. |
